Macintyre Triumphs in Spectacular GB3 Silverstone Showdown
Hitech Pulse-Eight's Will Macintyre showcased a masterful performance as he surged from third on the grid to clinch his second GB3 race victory of the season in the delayed second contest at Silverstone.
As the race commenced, Macintyre executed a brilliant start, swiftly overtaking Elite's McKenzy Cresswell and pole-sitting teammate Tymek Kucharczyk to claim the lead at Copse. Rodin's Ugo Ugochukwu closely followed suit, securing second position.
Despite challenging conditions marked by damp and greasy tracks, Macintyre managed to establish a slight gap, maintaining a lead of 1.5 seconds at one point. However, Ugochukwu initiated a late surge, significantly closing the gap in the final two laps and closely trailing Macintyre's rear wing during the last lap.
In a tense showdown down the Wellington Straight, Ugochukwu, a McLaren junior driver, appeared poised to mount a challenge at Brooklands. Yet, Macintyre adeptly defended his position, ultimately crossing the finish line 0.180s ahead of Ugochukwu.
Polesitter Kucharczyk, while embroiled in the race's dramatic moments, settled for third place, wrapping up his most successful weekend in GB3 yet, finishing just over six tenths behind his victorious teammate.
Behind the podium finishers, Elite's McKenzy Cresswell slipped to fourth place but secured valuable points across both races, with Rodin's Louis Sharp trailing closely in fifth, six tenths of a second adrift.
Further down the field, Elite Motorsport's Jarrod Waberski showcased a remarkable performance, ascending from ninth to sixth place after a spirited battle with VRD by Arden's James Hedley and JHR's John Bennett, who secured seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
The top ten was completed by Hitech's Gerrard Xie and JHR's Josh Irfan. Notably, series newcomer James Wharton demonstrated a commendable performance, climbing from 16th on the grid to secure 11th place for Fortec Motorsport.
